I Love Allentown – reasons to love #AtownPGH
With Valentine’s Day this month, we are featuring a series of guest blogs on why “I Love Allentown.” Learn more from these unique perspectives and what makes #AtownPGH a special place. This first blog comes from William Prince, an Americorps VISTA at Work Hard Pittsburgh.
The number one reason I love Allentown is Grandview Park. Simply put it is a hidden gem. It makes a great detour for a walk or a run through the Hilltop or just to take in the view. Neighboring Mount Washington has the inclines and the overlooks, but Allentown has an entire park dedicated to our city’s majestic skyline. It is a year-round destination any time of day. I’m looking forward to experience Cinema in the Park this summer.
I’ve come to really love the diversity of food and restaurants along Warrington and Arlington. While I may not be a coffee drinker, I still stop into Black Forge Coffee House for their baked goods – especially the oatmeal cream cookie sandwiches. Other spots like Leon’s Caribbean and Paisano’s add to the mix. Plus Breakfast at Shelly’s always fulfills my inner Leslie Knope and obsession for waffles. It’s worth trying out these spots, or sample them all in an upcoming Burgh Bites and Bits Tour coming later this year.
Lastly, convenience. While I didn’t know much about Allentown before moving here I’ve discovered the convenience the location provides in city life. Just moments away from Downtown Pittsburgh, an easy walk to South Side or Mount Washington, plus with an easy commute into the South Hills or the beautiful Mon Valley, Allentown is easy to love.
